At age 13, Theodore Boone dreams of becoming a lawyer one day or maybe a great judge. And why not? Both of his parents are lawyers, he’s in tight with one of the leading judges, and knows the county courthouse like the back of his hand. Plus he’s already getting legal advice to his middle school friends, everything from animal court to divorce court. But when the biggest murder case in years hits the docket, Theodore is pulled into a case with deadly consequences. As the complex events unfold will he be able to keep his integrity—to do the right thing?

Theodore Boone, Kid Lawyer is a clean read from one of my favorite legal mystery thriller writers. This book is also an easy read that in addition to the tension of a nice mystery, also illuminates the workings of the American legal system for the younger readers. However, the pace was slower than expected for this author, and the point of view (characters) somewhat distant. I am unsure of the author’s worldview, but he often presents Christian characters in a favorable light, and this book also presents positive role models and values.
