Katie’s looking for adventure at Camp Mountain Top and gets her fill when the two boy refuges-from-middle-school “security guards” decide to play the usual campground practical jokes on Katie and her friends. Katie rises to the challenge and gives the boys as much as she takes. But the adventures soar when Katie sights a mysterious white horse she dubs “Moonlight.” As the girls set out to track down the elusive animal, a suspicious botanist and fancy socialite show up and spin the mystery in a different direction.

The Mystery of the Disappearing Moonlight is a fun read for girls looking for creative ways to best the boys at camp while learning some practical truths. The campers discover that it’s not fancy dress and looks that count, rather kindness and good character. In this book, pranks trumped the mystery, but the whodunit came on strong later in the book.
