Vivid recurring nightmares of battle, ruin, dark knights and an evil prince plague Aidan Thomas. But when the high school freshman finds strange scrolls in the basement of his new house, he begins a journey that eventually lands him into that Realm—through the door within. There, taught by the beautiful Gwenne and trained by Captain Valithor, Aidan swears allegiance to the true King Eliam and joins his elite Elder Guard. The people of the Realm are divided between loyalty to King Eliam, and the evil Prince Paragal. Aidan and the twelve knights of Alleble are quested to negotiate peace with Ravelle, ruler of the undecided land of Mithegard. There Aidan makes a shocking discovery about King Ravelle and the nature of the natives of this land. In the unseen realm of Alleble, Aidan must exercise faith and courage to face horrific battles and fantastic creatures.
With echoes of C.S. Lewis, Wayne Thomas Batson creates an amazing fantasy world where spiritual principles and the epic battle between good and evil come to life in an allegory that is sure to powerfully impact the reader. If not for a few bumps in writing style and the opening, I’d have to rate this book as a five star. There is also a little more battle scene violence than in some other books I’ve rated. Still, this is a must read for great Christian fiction.
