Talia feels like she’s a freak but that’s the least of her problems, she lives in constant fear of her abusive and controlling father. This high school senior has no phone, Internet access, or accept for school, contact of any kind outside the home. In short, she is completely isolated—friendless. Having lost her mother several years earlier, followed by her younger brother’s attempted suicide which leaves him a paraplegic, her life seems hopeless, until a math-a-lete geek named Lagan starts passing her notes. A glimmer of hope ignites, but will she and her brother escape this living hell to find normalcy, real love and acceptance?

The author, Rajdeep Paulus, superbly reveals one teen’s inner life of horrific suffering along with a well poised budding romance. The heroine is perceptive, even funny, desperate and yet brave in the face of torture—a life twisted but of course never beyond redemption. The hero, a praying Christian, breaks into her life with persistent love and patience.  Subtly Christian, Swimming Through Clouds is an excellent story of romance and redemption with just a few bumps for me in the dialogue writing style.
