At twelve, life is looking good for Madeline when she receives a new mountain bike for her birthday. But the bottom falls out when her mother announces she will marry Dr. Hank and they will be moving to Smithtown some distance away. It looks like Madeline and her close-knit group of friends will soon be separated—unless she can somehow prevent the wedding.
Rebellion in Riversleigh is a sweet deal for the younger readers. There is good tension wondering how Madeline will prevent her family’s relocation. However, the omniscient point of view distances the characters and the author often used summary were there could have been action and dialogue.
