After a drug conviction forces her mother into the big house, 16-year-old Katie Parker lands in Texas’s foster care system. Squeezed into a single room with eight other girls at Sunny Haven Home for Girls, Katie’s future looks bleak until a couple from the small town of “In Between” takes Katie into their home. Expecting the worst—since that’s pretty much all she’s experienced—Katie plots to force her foster parents to return her to Sunny Haven. At least it’s predictable. But her plan malfunctions when the losers she expects to accept her decide to betray her. While the churchies she expects to shun her, rather embraced her instead. But will it last?

Author Jenny B Jones creates a snarky, snappy character with a slightly outrageous sense of humor in orphan Katie Parker. You will be enthralled as this underdog learns the truth about choices, and to trust good people, and even God while beginning to overcome the knots and scars of a traumatic childhood. Interesting characters and snappy dialogue also move this plot along nicely. Realism with hope equals a great read.

  1. I found this book very entertaining, the main characters sense of humor made her very likable. I kept rooting for her to make a home with her new foster family and to start trusting her new relationships. Very enjoyable read!
