12-year-old Anika Scott is a missionary’s kid on station in Kenya. She loves animals, the people, her friends and family– but meeting new people—not so much. Lisa Barnes and her family show up, the sparks fly. Despite being the same age, it seems like nothing will reconcile these two girls together. When dad’s health takes a turn for the worse, Anika blames the Barnes. More battles ensue. But they are in Africa, dangers abound—and Lisa is unaware. When trouble comes, will they find the faith, strength and courage to survive?

Karen Rispin wrote this series in the 1990s and is currently a biology professor at Le Tourneau University. Despite the date, The Impossible Lisa Barnes is an excellent read for the younger girls with interesting characters and sharp interaction. The powerful spirituality grew organically from the story, and the glimpse of life on African mission field was realistic and informative. Because this is a relaunch, these titles may only be available in e-book versions.
