Hordes of scabs threaten the remnant of a once beautiful world. Holed up in seven small forests, the Forest Guard must call up 16 and 17-year olds to repel the Zombie like humans bent upon exterminating the remnant. The supreme commander, Thomas Hunter, chooses Johnis, and three others for a seemingly simple mission to prove their mettle. Circumstances spin out of control when a traitor betrays the forest people, but Elyon’s emissaries rescue the teens and redirect them on another quest to save the planet from unspeakable evil. Johnis and his three comrades must recover the seven lost Books of History, thus wresting their supernatural power from Teeleh, the Dark One, and his minions.
Ted Dekker spins a Dystopian fantasy for young adults. This tale has typical fantasy characters enormous blood sucking bats called Shataiki, countered by Roush, Elyon’s white bats and an epic quest. Spiritual lessons of self sacrifice and faith are woven into the story, but with an average plot and underdeveloped characters, this is not near New York Times Best Seller, Ted Dekker’s best. Ted is best known for his amazing adult mysteries and action thrillers.
