The young healer’s apprentice, Merrilyn, discovers she holds a powerful healing gift bestowed by Loian, the God of light. Suddenly elevated to Nomar’s chief healer, she embarks upon a quest to help her childhood friend, Justan, battle an unknown enemy and rescue the crown prince, Jarrod. But the dark lord, Keardun, through his puppet wizard, Dugan, seems one step ahead of Merrilyn and Justan. Will Merrilyn’s faith in her God make the difference? And how will she handle her evolving relationship with the new crown prince, Justan?

This is fine Christian fantasy that exemplifies the influence of faith in the epic struggle between the power of light and the power of darkness. This imaginative story features excellent world building, a stellar heroine, and a cohesive plot. The point of view is sometimes hard to follow, and the battle scenes might seem a bit tame. However, the quest held good tension and imaginative surprises. Owing to the part played by the romantic elements A Light in the Darkness is one for the girls.
