This Little House classic recounts Laura Ingalls Wilder’s memories of living in the wooded wilderness of Wisconsin with her pioneer parents. A snug log cabin, long winters, howling wolves, bears and wild cats are a few features of this realistic story of pioneer life from the eyes of a little girl. Laura recounts Pa salting and smoking deer meat, and fish, and Ma raising vegetables from their storing them in the cellar and a myriad of chores required to raise, gather and store food in the late 1800s.
Laura always felt safe and snug with their bulldog Jack, Ma’s steady presence and Pa’s rifle. She and her big sister Mary played with pigs bladders, and corncob dolls. “But the best time of all was at night, when Pa came home.” And played the fiddle, told outrageous stories and played with his little Half-pint daughter and her sister. Little House, a favorite for all ages. There’s just something magical about this book and the series.
